The Biomimicry Research and Innovation Center BRIC at the University of Akron invites applications for the position of a PhD student in Biomimicry in the field of Architecture.

Dr. Petra Gruber's lab at the University of Akron is investigating spatial and functional aspects in biology by introducing tools and methods from architecture and design to scientific research, and translating findings into new solutions for the built environment. For upcoming research and development projects we are looking for a highly motivated architecture or design graduate, interested in the field of biomimicry and its application to solve real world problems using experimental design approaches.

The candidate should be able to support the group with knowledge and experience in computational and parametric design, programming and simulation, and use of advanced fabrication tools. Interest in scientific research and motivation to collaborate across disciplinary boundaries are required. Teaching experience and international experience are welcome.

The fellowship is allocated in the 5 year Integrated Bioscience PhD program of Biomimicry at the University of Akron, and is supported by a wide range of departments and faculty members.

The fellowship will start in fall 2017. Applications are reviewed until the position is filled.

Please contact Petra Gruber pgruber@uakron.edu if you consider applying for the position.

The field of biomimicry offers application opportunities in a variety of disciplines including paleontology, entomology, anthropology, chemistry, chemical, mechanical and aerospace engineering, polymer science, biology, design, architecture and engineering. BRIC and Great Lakes Biomimicry have created a biomimicry innovation ecosystem for research, education and application that includes a current population of 17 Biomimicry Fellows.
